What to Expect from your Internship Program In London

Interns thrive on the combination of meaningful and exciting professional experiences and a bustling, multicultural city with easy access to trips across continental Europe and the Mediterranean. In its seemingly endless neighborhoods and districts, you can walk past iconic buildings, hear hundreds of different languages spoken on the streets, and enjoy authentic cuisine from the far reaches of the globe. Many of our participants are so enamored by London that they return for work or graduate study after program completion. Some of our past interns have even stayed and accepted job offers.

Since London is a sprawling metropolis, our interns get used to navigating the city using the extensive public transport system. Commutes to work can vary from a 10-minute walk to a one-hour tube ride, typical to most Londoners. Intern housing is always in student residences located in Zones 1-2, so home is also close to fun for evenings and weekends.

The Global Experiences' London internship program provides just the right amount of group and individual support through cultural and social programming, networking opportunities, and career development. Our location-based staff live permanently in the city and provide an insider-level connection to the culture, and events, as well as 24/7 emergency support.

Guaranteed Custom Internship Placement

At Global Experiences, we guarantee an internship to all participants accepted into our internship programs. Admission to the program is based on a combination of relevant college or university level course work, relevant work experience and an assessment of maturity and readiness for a professional abroad experience.

We work with applicants on a one-to-one basis to understand their skills, talents, and expectations. By getting to know your academic background, career objectives, and overall expectations for your time in London, we are able to place you in a dynamic work environment providing real-world work experience.

Once a good match is found, all interns will interview by phone or skype with their supervisor before the placement is confirmed. When you arrive on location and you start at your internship we will help support you and ensure you make the most of your placement including on-site check-ins and coaching.

Your Experience Advisor

Global Experiences is built by a team of passionate and experienced travelers, who love working with our participants to help them get ready for both living and interning abroad. We know that it is a big step to move to a new city, make new friends, and explore a new culture, all while going to work everyday. That is where your program advisor and location coordinator will become your new travel experience advisors, taking care of you from the day you join the program, to the day you head home.

Your advisor will help you prepare for what will become the most life changing experience that you may ever have, including helping you navigate through travel bookings, visa requirements, academic credit and financing questions, as well as any nerves you have about living in a new city. We will help you get to know the rest of the program group so you'll have friends as soon as you arrive on location, and get a head start on weekend travel planning.

Housing in London

London housing is always in a modern student residence in a single or shared room (depending on your selection) in zone 1-2, which is the center of London. All residences have a 24/7 security and on-site support services. You will have easy access to public transport, shops, and cafes.

Bedding and kitchen supplies are included with your housing, but make sure to bring your own towels!

Keep in mind that housing in London rarely has air conditioning, but there are only a few times in the year when it's needed. There are laundry facilities, often a gym and other fun amenities within many of the residences, and most buildings allow you to have overnight guests, as long as you've gotten the approval of your roommate of course. Ask your advisor if you would like further details.

Travel Support

Included in your program are many essential travel services to help your experience be as easy as possible so you an focus on enjoying your new home and rocking your internship.

Program Inclusions

• Closed Facebook Groups for each group, so you can get to know your new friends and make travel plans before you arrive.
• United States and several other countries are required to travel on the BUNAC Tier 5 visa to Australia, and Canadian Interns travel on a Youth Mobility Working Holiday Visa. Each visa type has its own costs associated.

On-Site Programs Team

Global Experiences programs are lead by qualified staff in each program city that are trained and supervised by our head office in Annapolis, Maryland, USA.

Your program coordinator on location will get to know you before you depart, and will meet you on arrival in your new home. As a local of the city, all of our location staff are experienced in providing hands-on support to new visitors. There can be adjustments and culture shock when you first arrive, but we are more than ready to help you feel comfortable and get to know the amazing new culture in your new city. You will have an outline of events and experiences to take part in as well as plenty of opportunities to give your career skills an extra boost so you come home not just a world traveler, but also ready to take a big step forward in your journey to finding a career you love.

Add Academic Credit to your Program

Adding credit can allow students to access existing financial aid options and gain credit towards graduation for many majors. This is suitable for students who attend a university that does not offer credit for internships. For more information please discuss your situation with your program consultant at time of application.

You can add optional transfer credit to your program through our school of record, Fairfield University. 

Option 1: Summer, 3-6 Credits, $600*
Option 2: Semester, up to 9 Credits, $1,200
Option 3: Semester, up to 12 Credits, $1,800

• Transfer credit - letter grade or pass / fail. Determined by the home institution.
• General Elective credit - letter grade or pass / fail.
• Major credit - transfers as DEPT000 with letter grade.
• Financial Aid available. *GE credit-bearing courses cost $600 each. GE 298 is offered in a 3 or 6-credit version, while GE 301 and GE 302 each grant 3 credits upon completion.
