    Visas

All participants in the internship program will need to obtain a visa for participation in the program. Please review the visa options below:

    I. Effective November 1, 2007, US applicants will have access to a Work and Holiday Visa* especially designed for internship participants. These visas are required by the Immigration Department of Australia and allow participants to stay in Australia for up to 12 months. Once your Global Experiences program enrollment is confirmed, you will be able to apply for this visa directly online through the Immigration Department for a cost of $180 Australian Dollars.

Eligibility requirements for a Working Holiday Visa:

    • Be aged 18 to 30 inclusive
    • Be outside of Australia when you apply for and are granted the visa
    • Show evidence that you are enrolled in a post secondary course of study or hold post secondary qualifications
    • Have a return ticket or sufficient funds for a return or onward fare as well as sufficient funds for the first part of your stay, and
    • Meet health and character requirements

II. Global Experiences also offers USA applicants traveling in Australia for 4 months or less access to a Youth from USA visa which can only be obtained through Global Experiences. Like the Working Holiday Visa, there is an additional processing fee required for this visa.

Once your internship application has been accepted by Global Experiences, you will be provided with an official visa application for the Youth from USA visa and a supporting document request that you will need to complete and submit to Global Experiences. This visa will be issued from your intended date of arrival in Australia and will terminate one week following your internship end date. If you are interested in extending your stay in Australia beyond these dates, please note this on your application, but be aware that you will need to apply for a tourist visa to extend your stay further than one week past your internship end date. The visa cannot be extended once you are in Australia.

The visa also allows interns to accept paid or stipend work only with the company with which they are placed in Australia. We are not able to find placements based on the need for a paid opportunity; however, in the past, some Global Experiences interns who have been in a placement for 3 months or more have received some type of financial compensation. These arrangements are the sole responsibility of the intern and the host company or organization.

III. For eligible program participants holding citizenship from countries that do NOT have access to a Working Holiday Visa or Youth From USA Visa, you will be required to apply for a 416 visa. Your Global Experiences program consultant can provide further details on this application process.
