With a long-standing host employer network, dedicated staff, and a career readiness program that begins with Gallup CliftonStrengths, the 20-year history of Global Experiences set a foundation for robust, impactful internship experiences in over 12 countries with full-time and part-time opportunities available year-round.  

  • In April 2019, Global Experiences was acquired by AIFS Inc. to expand their international internship offerings. 
  • In January 2021, AIFS Study Abroad and Global Experiences re-emerged as AIFS Abroad to offer study, internship, and customized programs to support the evolving landscape of international higher education.

Who is AIFS Abroad? 

AIFS Abroad is part of the AIFS family of programs, a leading organization providing cultural exchange and educational opportunities around the world. AIFS is the sole funder of the Cyril Taylor Charitable Foundation (CTCF), which supports organizations, charities, and programs that align with its mission of world peace, support for underserved students, and bringing the world together through international education and cultural exchange.

There is no change to the programming you know and love. AIFS Abroad internships are rooted in the foundation of Global Experiences internship programs and are continuing to expand offerings in more locations and career fields. You can find all internships and Study + Internship programs here.

Emily Merson, co-founder of Global Experiences, is now the Executive Director of AIFS Abroad. With a combined team of seasoned AIFS Study Abroad, AIFS Customized Faculty-Led and Global Experiences professionals, you will have the experienced team to support your needs. 

In 2023, we merged our listings in all directory sites including Terra Dotta, Via TRM, and Horizons. Global Experiences listings should be archived. When importing programs all full-time internships will have the title: AIFS Abroad Internships in City, Country. You’ll also find our Study + Internship programs with titles: AIFS Abroad in City, Country: Term Study + Internship. 

Yes. Any university partner can work with AIFS Abroad for study, intern, custom programs, or any combination. No new paperwork or agreements are needed. Learn more about partnering with AIFS Abroad. 

Yes. If you have a request for a custom internship program, simply email your university representative or aifsabroad@aifs.com. 

Absolutely. Our School of Record partnership with Fairfield University continues. Participants can take a course in-person, online, or from their home institution. Fairfield University also provides accreditation to Study Abroad, Study + Internship, and Study + Travel programs for AIFS Global Education Centers.
